there is something to be said, about being loved by her. it feels warm, in a way he has never experienced. something he can't quite explain, but it's new. something he could easily get lost in. a protectiveness over her, even if he knows well enough : she can take care of herself. but he wants to take care of her. show her just how much she means to him. how much he loves her. everything feels a little easier with her here. sounds odd perhaps. but the light feels a little brighter, the air a little fresher, the sun a little warmer. feels a little more alive. like she had carried a piece of him all this time & only now did he find it. smile tug at the corner of his lips, hand drift up to rest against the side of her neck : thumb brush along her jaw. lived a long life without her by his side, and he really wouldn't want to go back. meant to find her. meant to love her.     ❝   we were.   ❞      leaning down and there's a soft kiss pressed to her forehead. ❝   i would not have it any other way.   ❞

Years on, accusations against Andor for being "too dark" confuse me because I don't think there was any aspect of the violence itself that was darker than anything we've seen in Star Wars. What people took issue with was that the characters would pause, comment on, and react to such violence in a way that the majority of other Star Wars characters historically have not.

Take a look at any of the violence in The Clone Wars -- often the most we'll get is characters acknowledging the violent act they just witnessed or committed themselves, but for various reasons they can't/don't portray it the way that, say, Bic getting slammed into a wall and bleeding from the head (police brutality was shown. Characters get blown sky high in Star Wars animation all the time -- but when the same happens in Andor with the Pre-Mor cops, it's not the violence, it's the cries for help and the wounded screams and the ashen nausea on Siril's face.

Which is to say that Andor doesn't gloss over, excuse, ignore, or make light of its violence. A child is about to enter into a child marriage for the sake of the rebellion and its handled with horror. Immediately after rescuing a child bride from a defacto pedophile, Boba's put in the child's place and this is played as a joke despite him ALSO being a child (the presumption being that the pedophile in question ~obviously~ doesn't want Boba, and that Boba can get out on his own).

I'm glad that Andor doesn't play around with its violence. It showed the horrors and downsides of oppressive violence and how it can hurt the oppressors without excusing anything they do. Rebels' modus operandi was making a running joke of the silly, ridiculous, our outlandish ways that the crew would kill Imperial soldiers.

(Don't get me wrong, I love Rebels. I really do. But if we're looking at the pure math, two highschoolers blew up a lot of people and laughed about it. This isn't an indictment on Rebels!)

One might even say that Andor on average was less violent than your typical pre-Andor Star Wars show. People have committed suicide (twice, TCW), fallen to their deaths (repeated, TCW), been decapitated (TCW), lost limbs and shown the missing limb (TCW), been blown up (TCW), sacrificed themselves (TCW) etc etc....you get the idea. But outside the deaths that are meant to be important to the characters themselves? You're unlikely to get a moment of horror or shock or fear at the sight of a dead body before them. Even Omega is given a weapon strong enough to kill, and she uses it on a clone no more then 15 feet away from her. We get more commentary on Crosshair leaving (not even almost killing them, just leaving) than we do on her apparently killing multiple people.

I don't have a smooth ending for this, this is more of an observation or anything. But the discomfort with the dark-violence of Andor? I think that was folks wishing the characters would move on from mass death and violence the way other characters have for years. They don't want to be disturbed.

he knows she can take care of herself & that is not the issue here. perhaps some part of him just hate seeing her hurt. knew she was hurt in the past, and he hadn't been there to stop it. now he was, and she still got hurt. even if it was by devlon who wasn't playing fair at all. still got hurt. hate that she was. hate seeing it and maybe it was some male thing. mate thing. jaw twitch slightly as she hiss, even if he continue to clean the cut : taking a deep breath before eyes shift from the gash and up to hers.    

❝   it's not fine.   ❞      wouldn't have been fine, no matter how it might happen. but knowing it was devlon and knowing he did it after he yielded : it wasn't right. would have been easier to handle if it was anyone else and it had been a fair fight.

maybe she had let the illyrians bait her into the sparring ring. she had even anticipated the cut, hell she had anticipated much worse than this. their view of females was small-minded, supposed to be an eye-opener for them. proving that a female was just as capable of fighting as a male was. a slight roll of dark eyes, followed by a small hiss as the damp cotton swipes against the cut.

WIP Wednesday: TTBW Ch 3

After a moment’s hesitation, Nesta placed a hand on Azriel’s shoulder. “I’m here for you too, Az. You are not alone. I know your history. You know ours. I’m not sorry about a single thing the three of us have done, separately or together. And I won’t let anything they say make me regret it. Keep that in mind for me, won’t you?” Time seemed to stand still as Azriel stepped forward and embraced Nesta, their emotions eddying around them in an almost visible flurry. His arms wrapped tightly around her as he buried his face in her pale blue Illyrian wool dress. She wore the same armor adornments over the fabric as she’d done that night. Nesta wasn’t shying away, not from a single thing. So why should Azriel? He held her tight as his shadows began to swirl around them both, cocooning them in darkness and muffling any words they might say. Azriel pulled back just enough to speak. “He’s truly okay?” Nesta let out a little exasperated laugh, her face falling from her proud mask into worry. “Not even a little bit. But he’s ready for today, and that’s all we can ask for right now.” She looked up at Azriel with tender concern before asking, “are you?”

“Sure, but this shit is nasty.” Nesta held one of the bottles in her hand. The drink was labeled “Suriel-Tea” with a ghostly face as a mascot. The memory of sour peach tea stained her memory as Nesta gagged.

“Mother above you’re so dramatic.” Emerie rolled her eyes hearing her friend.

“Also when I asked you for help, I didn’t need your comments about every product you were putting on the floor.”

he is happy they are here. both lysandra & evangeline, and it felt right. that they were here and got to see what velaris was like. like something clicked into place and he wouldn't have it any other way. met under entirely different circumstances, but now they were at peace and they could take their time to figure this out. soft hum as one hand grasp hers, bringing it up and place a gentle kiss to the back of her hand.     ❝   i would stay with you forever, if you allowed me.   ❞      there is no leaving her, think he found home in her. a warm feeling when she is around. ❝   what answer will come from that ?   ❞

a goodnight kiss, she is tempted. evangeline was asleep, curled up in the bed that was hers. velaris was kind to both of them - no one looked at her scars. no one asked about the dark pasts they had both come from, not even cassian. he was there for both of them, had been from the start. " will you leave then ? because my answer might depend on yours, lord cassian. " she teases, she wanted him to stay the night, but she didn't want to ask. so instead she teases him a bit.

Day 5 - Food

Probably nothing is more popular or easily recognizable than food. Food almost defines a culture before anything else. National dishes and local delicacies help bring countless people together. Immigration, colonialism, disasters, and far-reaching trade networks have changed food maps for eons.

What are the foods that make up Star Wars? What foods would you put into Star Wars? We've seen the tomato slices and drum sticks from The Clone Wars, the infamous war rations, and the popular nuna. Mandalorians have uj cake, while Jedi might have their own versions of home delicacies. Maybe there are outer space versions of jollof rice or moon cakes. Show us what you got!

there was never enough time. her visits here always too brief and too abrupt in nature & always ended sooner than he would like. so maybe he is stalling in the only way he knows how, because usually it leaves them both lost on time. most efficient way anyways. plus, he quite like this. likes feeling her hands on him, her body pressed against his own, the warmth of her radiating into him. her back pressed against the wall : his hands splayed out against her hips, keeping her close. feels like home & he isn't quite ready to let it go. let her go. wants to enjoy this as long as possible. one hand drift up to her face and slide back, fingers curling into her hair as he kiss her, leaning more into her.
